Milton High (Ga.) CB Troy Simon commits to Wake Forest

With offers and interest from nearly two dozen schools, choosing a school could have easily become an overwhelming task for three-star Milton High School cornerback Troy Simon.

But he focused on the schools that were the best fit for him — institutions that were geographically a good fit with solid academics that offered the opportunity to make an impact on the football field.

After his final trip to Winston-Salem two week ago, it became clear to Simon that Wake Forest was the best destination for him. He gave the coaching staff his verbal commitment Wednesday afternoon.

“That was my third or fourth time going up there, and it just grew on me. I got used to being around the players, the coaches and the community,” Simon said. “My parents loved it there, and it’s great academically.”

Simon had offers from the likes of Mississippi State, Notre Dame, Maryland and California.

“They really wanted me,” Simon said about the Wake Forest coaching staff. “I felt wanted.”

Simon stands 6-feet tall and weighs 190 pounds. Though the Wake coaching staff has recruited him as a corner, he’s capable of playing the safety position as well.

“Wake has recruited me as a corner, but I have the ability to play both at the same level,” he said. “If they need me to change, it will be an easy transition.

“I’m a cover corner, so I play a lot of man coverage. I’m a man-cover corner, and I can tackle. Those are my two strengths.”

The Deacs commitment to facilities upgrades really made an impression on Simon.

“I’ve visited three times. The first time I came, they were building the indoor practice facility. The second time, I got to see it first hand, and that’s one of the things that really turned me on to Wake,” he said. “I can see the improvements, and the school is moving to become more of football school. They understand how big football is in the area.”
